Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Information and Science and Information Technology Minister Shafi Jan has strongly condemned the arrest of Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, describing it as evidence of the “fear and panic” of the Punjab government.
In a post on X, the provincial minister said Aleema Khan’s arrest outside her residence reflected what he called the “fear and desperation” of the Punjab government.
Shafi Jan alleged that after Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, the former prime minister’s sister was also being subjected to political victimisation. He said such “illegal and unconstitutional tactics” were adopted when a government lost public support.
“The fear of the September 27 long march is not allowing this government to sit peacefully,” he said, referring to the PTI’s planned protest movement. The minister maintained that the PTI would not be intimidated by such measures. He claimed that the government’s alleged fear of the September 27 long march was a sign of its political uncertainty.
Shafi Jan further said the detention of a non-political woman under the Maintenance of Public Order (3-MPO) law was nothing more than political panic and victimisation by the Punjab government.
