‘Stranger Things’ prequel ‘Other Worlds’ officially ordered to series at Netflix

The new series will explore a mysterious chapter set in 1955, decades before original events

Netflix has officially ordered Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure, a new prequel series set in the universe of Stranger Things, with its debut scheduled for 2028.

The announcement was made on November 6 as part of the annual Stranger Things Day celebration, which commemorates the fictional disappearance of Will Byers on November 6, 1983.

According to Variety, the upcoming series will take place in 1955 in Marion, Nevada, exploring events that occurred before the storylines of the original series and the stage production Stranger Things: The First Shadow.

The Duffer brothers previously teased that the project would explore events leading up to Henry Creel’s exposure to the mysterious otherworldly substance that gave him his supernatural abilities. However, further plot details and character information have not yet been revealed.

Matt and Ross Duffer are co-creating the series alongside Kate Trefry, who will also serve as showrunner and executive producer. Trefry previously worked as a writer on Stranger Things and wrote The First Shadow.

Joe Wright has been appointed to direct the first three episodes and will also serve as an executive producer. Other executive producers include Shawn Levy, Paul Dichter, Shelley Meals, Andrea Sperling and Pavlina Hatoupis. Production is scheduled to take place in New Mexico.

The Duffer brothers expressed excitement about finally bringing the long-developed project to life, praising Trefry and Wright for their contributions. They also teased that the series would introduce new heroes, villains and mysteries while retaining the elements audiences associate with the original show.

Other Worlds will become the latest expansion of the franchise, joining animated series Stranger Things: Tales from ‘85’ and stage production Stranger Things: The First Shadow.

Casting details have yet to be announced, with the creators confirming that the next step is finding actors for the new characters.
